Chinese companies are expected to break the monopoly of international giants in the high-end data communication cable market.

Recently, the Chengdu Datang Group's Category 8 digital communication cable products have continuously obtained qualified test reports for channel links and permanent links from Tai Rui Communication Equipment Testing Co., Ltd., as well as qualified test reports for cable units from Shanghai Guolan Testing Co., Ltd. This indicates that Chinese enterprises have reached international levels in key technology, production processes, and performance indicators, and are expected to break the monopoly of international giants in domestic and foreign markets, promoting the standardization of related domestic products.
In the era of the Internet of Everything, applications such as autonomous driving, telemedicine, industrial internet, and artificial intelligence are emerging one after another. Operators in various countries are accelerating the deployment of 5G networks, forming network capabilities of 'ultra-high bandwidth', 'ultra-low latency', and 'full connectivity coverage'. This raises higher requirements for data transmission, making the use of 10G networks inevitable. Compared to the mainstream products of the current market, Category 6a cables, Category 8 digital communication cables have increased the maximum operating frequency by 20 times, reaching 2000MHz; the signal transmission rate has increased by 40 times, reaching 40Gbps; they feature low transmission latency, high transmission rates, low error rates, and high electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), making them a more high-end product in the digital communication cable product series, and they will also be the mainstream products for 5G business applications in future data centers and high-end smart buildings. Category 8 cables have complex processes and high production equipment requirements, and in the Chinese market, they are not only monopolized by foreign giants but also lack product standards and specifications.
International standards ISO 11801.1 and TIA 568.2-D officially included the relevant requirements for Category 8 cables in their standards and published and implemented them in 2017 and 2018, respectively, while there are currently no standards in China. The China Communications Standards Association (CCSA) has designated Chengdu Datang to lead the revision and update of the YD/T 1019 'Polyolefin Insulated Twisted Pair Cables for Digital Communication' standard, which is planned for 2022, and this will include the newly added implementation standards for Category 8 cables.
Chengdu Datang is a formal member unit of the CCSA Transmission Network and Access Network Technology Working Committee (TC6), undertaking a large number of national and industry standard formulation tasks within the association. The YD/T 1019 'Polyolefin Insulated Twisted Pair Cables for Digital Communication' that it leads in formulating is the industry implementation standard for digital communication cables in China. With over 50 years of research and development experience in communication optical cables, coupled with the internationally advanced Finnish Myllypuro three-layer co-extrusion insulation production line, Chengdu Datang has maintained a high degree of consistency (≥99.9%) in foaming and concentricity during the production process through unremitting efforts and repeated trials, ensuring the transmission performance indicators such as product attenuation, characteristic impedance, and return loss. The successful development of this product will provide reliable data support for the revision of YD/T 1019 to add standards for Category 8.1 and 8.2 cables, laying a good foundation for the establishment of standards and specifications for domestic Category 8 cables.
